Before you fill out the application

Step 1 of 5

  • 1. Complete the marriage license application within 60 days of the wedding ceremony.

    2. Visit the Wake County Register of Deeds office: 300 S. Salisbury St Suite 1700 Raleigh NC 27601.

     Walk-in hours:
     
    Monday – Friday
      8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

    Both parties must be present to obtain the marriage license.

    3. Bring the following items:

    • Proof of social security or ITIN number
    • Valid government issued ID
    • Certified birth record - for applicants ages 16-20
    • Certified copy of divorce decree – if finalized within the last 30 days
    • Payment ($60.00) - cash or credit cards accepted
      • Applications now accepted at the Southern Regional Center and Northern Regional Center. Regional centers are cash only

     

    Acceptable Forms of Identification: 

    Applicants 21 years of age or older may use (1) of the following:

    • Driver’s license or State-issue I.D. Card (may not be expired)
    • Passport (may not be expired)
    • Military ID.
    • Certified copy of birth certificate

    Applicants 18-20 years of age:

    • Certified copy of birth certificate.
    • Must come to Register of Deeds office

    Applicants 16-17 years of age:

    • Call 919-856-5490 for requirements.
    • Must come to Register of Deeds office


    Acceptable Proofs of Social Security Number

    • Social Security Card
    • W-2
    • Tax return

    * Must list the full social security number and match the name listed on the presented Identification *
